On Sunday, 16th August 2026, Sri S.S. Jain Sangh, Sowcarpet and Sri Rajasthani Shwetambar Terapanthi Jain Association jointly organised the “Virat Hasya Kavi Sammelan 2026” in Sowcarpet, Chennai. The event gave the audience an opportunity to witness a grand battle of laughter and a festival of entertainment. Held to raise funds for the renovation of Jain Sthanak and Jain Bhawan, the program took place at the Music Academy on TTK Road, Alwarpet, starting at 5:00 PM.
The grand gathering brought together eminent and internationally renowned poets on a single stage. Poets like Arun Gemini, Bhuvan Mohini, Sudeep Bhola, Ashok Charan, and Deepak Pareek received thunderous applause for their recitations. However, the biggest highlight of the evening was the host, Shambhu Shikhar.
Shambhu Shikhar made his mark not just as a poet, but also as a skilled host. His witty remarks, brilliant introductions of the poets, and engaging interaction with the audience infused the entire atmosphere with energy. Whenever there was a brief lull on stage, one line from Shambhu Shikhar would send the whole hall echoing with laughter.
His style of comedy blended satire, social issues, and the flavor of family life in such a way that people of all age groups connected with him. The audience repeatedly chanted “Once More,” and in the end, the organizers declared him the “Best Performer” of the evening.
At the conclusion of the event, Shambhu Shikhar said, “Laughter is the medicine you get without a prescription.” The entire hall erupted in applause at this line.
With a pre-sunset dinner and valet parking arrangements, the event proved that when poetry and humor come together, it becomes not just entertainment but a memorable experience. And at the center of that experience was Shambhu Shikhar.
